Abstract
Snowboarding is popular winter sports and rapidly spreads around the young. As the demand increasing, to analyze the characteristics and prevent the accidents about snowboard injury are required. Patients, staying at Muju Resort dispensary from December 8th, 2005 to March 4th, 2006 were subjects to the research. We handed out the questionnaires to the patients, and analyzed the snowboard accident records. Furthermore, we asked to the patients about their condition, and did other medical examinations to them to have knowledge about their symptoms. There were 847 numbers of 20¡¯s patients, which was almost a half of all patients. The majority numbers of accidents are occurred between 15:00 to 16:00 and during the weekends (Saturdays; 432, Sundays; 371). The much of patients were beginners that have no training. The most common injuries were contusion and sprain (61.8%), and upper extremity damages are more common than lower extremity. As a result, to prevent the snowboard accidents, all boarders have to be careful in crowded slop, and fatigued boarders should be resting. Moreover, the beginners have to learn professionally and better to set up the basic safety equipment before go out for boarding.
